The Charlemagne Institute is pleased to announce the following new hires for the summer of 2019. We are looking for three capable individuals who are excited about engaging a wide national audience with the ideas and principles of Western Civilization.

Editorial Assistant

  Summary

The Editorial Assistant supports the everyday editorial functions for Charlemagne’s two publishing arms: Chronicles Magazine, our flagship publication, and Intellectual Takeout, a website and social media network for millions of Americans.  In addition to creating original content and providing crucial editorial services, the Assistant is responsible for administering social media outreach of all our brands.


Responsibilities

  • Support Intellectual Takeout and Chronicles Magazine by curating, editing, and uploading content for publication
  • Contribute original content on a regular basis
  • Steward the brands of The Charlemagne Institute through regular posting on Facebook & Twitter
  • Other duties as assigned by management


Qualifications

  • 1-2 years of editorial experience
  • 1-2 years of experience in social media, public relations, or related field
  • Ability to communicate articulately and winsomely, both in written and oral forms
  • Proficiency with website tools and social media platforms, strongly preferred

Multimedia Editor

  Summary

The Multimedia Editor is responsible for creating and maintaining attractive graphics and multimedia elements for Charlemagne’s two publishing arms: Chronicles Magazine, our flagship publication, and Intellectual Takeout, a website and social media network for millions of Americans. Highly qualified candidates will have skills in graphics design, social media, and video production. Individuals with skills in at least two of these areas may also apply.


Responsibilities

  • Lead the design of page layout and formatting of Chronicles Magazine, in collaboration with editorial staff
  • Support the graphic needs of The Charlemagne Institute by designing promotional materials and miscellaneous media for use in all departments
  • Oversee the pipeline for video content, including shooting, editing, and publication
  • Steward the promotion of video content through social media, including YouTube & Facebook 
  • Provide A/V support for seminars and fundraising events, as needed
  • Other duties as assigned by management


Qualifications

  • 2+ years of professional graphic design; proficiency in Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, and Acrobat (Creative Cloud subscription version)
  • 1 year of videography experience; familiarity with all aspects of video production such as shoot setup, audio recording and mixing, video compression, and media asset management
  • Knowledge of digital marketing, with special emphasis on YouTube
  • Ability to communicate articulately and winsomely, both in written and oral forms

Administrative Assistant

  Summary

The Administrative Assistant will work closely with the Director of Operations to support the administrative needs of all departments. The individual will be responsible for the everyday financial duties of the organization as well as showing hospitality to our board members and guests.


Responsibilities

  • Administer basic financial duties: entry of bills, preparation of checks, deposits, account monitoring, and monthly reconciliation
  • Provide basic IT assistance: troubleshoot minor IT issues (e.g. nonfunctional printers, docking station issues), enter and track help desk tickets, and inventory IT equipment
  • Answer phones, receive guests, and respond to emails in general email account
  • Practice hospitality in event planning for board meetings, seminars, and other office gatherings
  • Coordinate travel arrangements for staff and event speakers
  • Proofread and format organizational documents, as needed
  • Other duties as assigned by management


Qualifications

  • 3 years minimum professional experience in business, administration, or a related field
  • 1 year of finance or accounting experience, strongly preferred
  • Proficiency with using Microsoft Office applications (Word, Outlook, Excel) and Adobe Acrobat
  • Superior attention to detail
  • Ability to multi-task and proactively serve the needs of multiple departments
  • Ability to communicate effectively and winsomely, in both oral and written forms

All three positions are full-time and non-exempt.
